The K-2 Bilingual Teacher's Summer Recovery Guide:  10 Ways to Decompress and Recharge

Let's be honest:  Teaching K-2 is beautiful, chaotic and profoundly exhausting.  And when you add the layer of managing dual-language challenges where, at times, it feels as though we have to completely rewrite the curriculum to fit linguistic needs, then we reach a whole new level of burnout.  (This post includes affiliate links which means that I might make a small commission if you make a purchase with these links, at no additional cost to you.  Thank you for your support!)
You didn't just teach this year; you poured your entire heart, voice and energy into your classroom.  You've probably even had dreams about your school-kids!

But now the school year is either wrapping up, or it's over.  This is your official time to turn off your "teacher brain". No lesson plans.  No grading. No repeating instructions.  Just pure, unadulterated rest and relaxation.

Give yourself that break!

And if you are having a hard time allowing yourself to relax, then take a look at my 'Rest and Relax' list.  Find a quite corner at home and enjoy this list of ideas that will help you reclaim your peace.

My first suggestion is that you take time to read for your own enjoyment.  Don't grab a book about how to make centers better!  You know you'll be reading plenty of that soon.  Just take a week or 2, and each day do some reading for yourself.  It'll change your perspective!

Cognitive Rest

Your brain spent the last ten months processing a million things at once.  It's time to give you a break from school data and focus on gentle, mindless escapism!
  1. Teacher Coloring BooksSometimes we are too tired to read, but too wired to sleep.  Adult coloring books offer the perfect middle ground for mindless, calming focus.  This one is special though, because not only can you color for relaxation, these pages come with relatable thoughts you'd love to say at work, but just don't.  CLICK HERE to check it out!
  2. JournalsAfter a year of teaching, a different kind of 'brain dump' is incredibly therapeutic.  Use this high-quality, hardcover journal to write down thoughts, to sketch or practice gratitude journaling.  So unrelated to lesson plans!   CLICK HERE for the link.
